About

We are affiliated to the East Coast Rowing Council, along with 10 other clubs. During the summer we race traditional East Coast Skiffs, which are present in clubs on the East Coast of Ireland from Courtown in Co.Wexford, up as far as Skerries in North Co.Dublin.

In August of every year we compete in the All Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships using the “One-Design” boat, an event which brings the top coastal rowers in Ireland to one place to compete in over 40 different categories over one weekend.

We have also been at the fore of the development of Coastal Sculling in Ireland, by rowing and competing in the FISA class of coastal boats. Our dedication to this discipline of the sport in Ireland is unrivalled, as we have competed in all but one World Rowing Coastal Championships since they were started, and were the first club in Ireland to host a Championship solely for this discipline.

Every two years the Celtic Challenge is held, a race from Arklow to Aberystwyth during the May Bank Holiday Weekend. The boats used are Celtic Longboats named “Celtic Venturer” and “Blackbird”, both of which have won the race. Arklow Men’s crews winning overall the 2002 and 2008 races in Celtic Venturer, and Arklow Women’s crews winning the Women’s category 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014 in Blackbird.
